Anything with the two of them, really. Something mostly over the radios with Ajay actually chatting back sometimes? Pagan calling while exceptionally coked out of his mind and Ajay grumpily sneaking north to check on him, or Ajay getting badly injured and Pagan being ridiculous about it? Something post-game with Ajay just going the hell home when he's finally able to make it there and Pagan in exile bursting in on his life again because he left Ajay a COUNTRY, what is this nonsense with him just going back to live quietly in the US? Or Ajay hunting down Pagan himself to throw him back on his throne, because, fuck it all, he might be a murderous dictator but somehow less terrible for the average Kyrati citizen than Amita or Sabal has ended up being and Ajay still doesn't want the throne himself. Or, of course, anything spinning off from the crab rangoon ending.

If you want to go with something seasonal there's no way that anything Pagan chose to do for Halloween, or to bring Thanksgiving to Ajay, wouldn't be hilarious and I'd love to see where you go with it.

This pairing has always been my great FFVII love. Part of what I love about them is that his feelings for her aren't just written into the game script, they're actually coded into the game mechanics themselves; he will never lay a finger on her in a fight if anybody else is left standing, and even if the rest of the party is dead he can't bring himself to half the time, so you could do something with people noticing how hard he tried to avoid hurting her.

Or you could do something about exactly how and when his feelings for her started; did he used to stop in the Seventh Heaven for drinks from time to time before they knew they were enemies, or was the elevator in Shinra HQ the first time he saw her and it just started from immediate physical attraction, or what? If you want to do something seasonal maybe Tifa returning his feeling could spring off reluctantly allowing the remnants of Shinra into a holiday event at her new bar and things sparking during it?

Or, post-canon, something where she gets wrangled into helping him out on an undercover as a (married?) couple mission (maybe chasing down an old protegee of Hojo's--if you're going spooky go as creepy as you want with stuff someone like that could be up to--or Scarlet's who's rumored to be carrying on their work, or tying up some other Shinra loose end that she agrees needs to be taken care of- maybe Reno's the one who finagles her into taking part as a gift to Rude?)

The Mysteries of Baroque

Female PC, please, with one of the canon names! Mine was a consulting detective names Imogen herself, but feel free to run with other backgrounds.

First of all, there's a freeform tag that keeps popping up in flash exchanges that always screams this pairing to me: "Trying To Determine If Lover Is Secretly A Monster Or If The Clues Are Just Coincidence". A PC who keeps a high humanity can get along pretty easily through the world, but they're still a reanimated corpse even before you get into the possibility of their making Old Friends or accepting their herald role (okay, if they're in a romance that probably didn't happen, but still would have touched them), and I'd love something with Rochus starting to pick up hints that something's more wrong with her than he knows even if he'd rather not.

Or anything at all with the two of them stumbling into new scenarios inspired by gothic horror novels and penny dreadfuls, I love how everywhere you turn in Baroque you stumble on new variations of old tropes and would be happy to see any others you'd like to play around with. I really like the two of them teaming up to do detective work together in the end, and there are all types of mysteries in the genre that you could have them stumble over!

So, I have absolutely shipped Aradia/DD ever since those pages after Make Her Pay. I love how he's into her getting her revenge, I love how Aradia (who, at this point in the story, has only *just* really started showing that she's getting her own volition back with the new body) pushes straight back against him when he's trying to command her beyond that, I love how he totally accepts that push back.

Something where Aradia hangs around her session's Dignitary before he becomes Droog and things happen, or don't? Droog on the other side watching and reminiscing, or, if nothing happened, regretting it, or being surprised because it's been so long that he'd forgotten all that? Something where, while timey-wimeying her way around one of the Aradia's manages to catch a ride with an Exile (knowing it might give her an opportunity to confront Doc Scratch now that she has the will to do so?) and becomes a member of the Midnight Crew? Or something where she hangs around with another session's DD (I can't actually remember whether the Beta version survived to possibly to hanging out in one of Jade's planets, but she could distract the alpha version from admiring Dad Crocker) who has no idea why this particular grey lady seems so interested in him.

I love Meiying being feisty and smart, I love the snarkiness between Jonas and Suyin (and really Jonas and Meiying, too). I love how competent both Jonas and Suyin are in their own ways, how they save each other multiple times, how Suyin judges him harshly in the beginning and then comes around but that doesn’t soften the edge of their teasing. I love how much Suyin wants to make her father proud, and how heartbroken she is over his loss and his final words to her. Found families coming together to fight monsters. How could I not adore this? I love how all these very different people come together to save each other and the world, and even as they team up, they still fight and spark off each other and do the wrong thing and the right. They break off into smaller groups (Steve and the kids is a particular favorite of mine), they fight in different locations, they have different strengths and weaknesses, and yet somehow they manage to keep saving the world. Saving each other.

I love how much Nancy has grown into her strength, how physically strong she is and emotionally, too, how she mourns and is afraid and still keeps pushing through. I love how Jonathan is driven first to save his brother and then to keep saving him, to protect their mom, to protect the people he cares about, even as he’s awkward and fumbling and terrified. And Steve: I love how Steve changes so much, even over the first season but especially in the second, how he leaves his stereotypical popular guy facade behind and throws himself into the strange world exploding around him.

Joshua/Megumi:


These two fascinate me—Megumi's obvious reverence for Joshua, and Joshua's willingness to sacrifice him over a bet, which Megumi nonetheless takes as an honor and indication of respect. I've always had the impression that Joshua probably hasn't gotten out a whole lot over the years and that Megumi's probably one of the few people he's had regular contact with—which isolation, combined with the imbalance in power between them, could have led to some very complicated feelings on both sides.


Joshua/Sanae:


The whole apparent affectionate-mentor/protege thing, with its side dish of "oh by the way, I stabbed you in the back and tried to kill you for the Greater Good," hits so many of my favorite fucked-up relationship notes. Honestly, if Joshua's had Sanae for a role model over the years that probably explains a lot about Joshua.

As much as I loved Ethan and Vanessa together, I was always intrigued by the relationship between Malcolm and Ethan. It seemed like Malcolm was less close to Ethan than his other "children" (maybe because Ethan was like him) . And then season 3 hit and all of a sudden Malcolm's mission was getting Ethan back and we had daddy issues all over the place with a biological father and a werewolf father and Malcolm shooting Ethan's bio dad to save him in a church and I started going, wow, that escalated quickly (the unofficial motto of Penny Dreadful).

So I'd love something with the two of them set after the series. I think it leaves it in an interesting place - Ethan's vowed to stay with Malcolm, but no one's in a good mental space and it's not like it's a happy ending just because evil was defeated (temporarily). I mean, Ethan's still a werewolf so there's that to angst about and Malcolm just lost another daughter, so there's plenty of room for people thinking about all the terrible life decisions they've made and deciding to make more by sleeping with each other.

This is one of the pairings that I totally saw coming and yet was delightfully thrilled when it happened! It helps that it's totally like something out of a classic Austen or Regency romance, where you have the gruff gentlemen trying to break into a closed society and a poor, but well-connected lady who learns the value of true friendship (and then of really hot sex with someone who has a very nice boat). I know the show got renewed, but I would love something set after the finale. Where do they head off to? How does Imogen cope with being out of her element and Agreus with losing what he's worked for?

If you're more into something creepy, the fairy world is ready and willing to give you some good nightmare fuel there. Maybe Agreus and Imogen stumble into something neither of them are prepared for? Fairy tale curses? Supernatural creatures? Mysterious lands with laws you didn't know you broke until it was too late?
